NARCAN: Public Service Announcement

Friday, May 21 2021

We have seen a rapid increase in the number of fentanyl overdoses daily in the community.

Please note that:

  • Synthetic Opioids are the leading cause of death due to overdosing.
  • Fentanyl (Fettys) is a powerful Synthetic Opioid like morphine. It is 80 to 100 times more potent than any other opioids.
  • Fentanyl can be sold as powder or pill and can be cut into or mixed with other drugs such as Percocet, oxycodone, meth, heroin, etc.
  • Fettys can be made into pills to look like "DROs" or "PERCs"
  • Potency can differ between dealers and batches and the way it is used (ingested).
  • Fentanyl is extremely dangerous because the difference between the dose that will get you high and the dose that can kill you is very small.
  • Mixing with other drugs can be FATAL.
  • Higher doses of Narcan are needed to reverse fantanyl and may not last or may not serve you. It is important to get to an ER after using Narcan.

NARCAN is available at the RBHC pharmacy without a prescription.
