October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We use this month to promote screening and prevention, to educate, and to show our support for those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, approximately 382,640 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed this year alone. This is why consistent screening through mammography is vital as mammograms can help catch cancer early, when treatment is most effective.

Other ways to support early detection include knowing your personal risk and becoming familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel. Watch for things like lumps or thickening, dimpling or other skin differences, nipple changes, or unusual discharge. Get to know your body! It is important to educate yourself so you can be aware of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. If you notice a change, call your doctor as soon as possible.

Early detection can be lifesaving. Be proactive about your breast health and schedule your screening today!
